The Queen Elizabeth Country Park at night

Answer the Night Run Part 2 – Not quite The Hangover Part 2 – but more fun and a good bit of excercise.

Now as we all know any form of excercise is good for losing weight, however the cake at the end of this run may well effect that. A normal plan for gaining muscle mass, whilst trying to cut body fat/wieght is to mix in cardio with some heavy wieghts. I have to say by the time I got home at 12.20 it was an ickle bit to late to take a protein shake and hit the gym for a wieghts session.

I must say, I have never had such a laugh when running as last night. In total I burnt 1,171 calories and ran 10.06 miles in 2 hours and 13 minutes, which in terms of pace is slow. However if you had seen the mud (people losing shoes) the downhill muddy bits etc you would understand.

Full credit goes to the organisers…one of them being Tony Conway for an excellent event. And credit also to the guy from the lead pack of 4, who upon coming down a heavily muddified hill, slipped and rolled down the side of the hill into a bush. A most impressive drop!

Too see the map and our ickle route click here

I managed to steal someone’s husky dog for about 2 miles, and we did pass a spokey murder site. Luckily the murder happened many moons ago!

My old trainners are nice and muddy now, I think I need some new Brooks GTS 10′s as mine are now over a year old, and I got a blister last night too. Time to do some of that shopping stuff.

We finished off the night with some stretches, and then a big cake party. Yes almost everyone bought along tea/coffee and cake of all descriptions. This probably mitigated a lot of the calories burnt, but heck who cares. A top Friday night running around in the woods in the dark, going up and down muddy hills.

I would mention the conversations had, however they are probably a bit OTT for public reading! And also mainly not at all related to running.

Here is to night run part 3, and lot’s more Portsmouth Jogger runs.
